About me
My name is Irene Alobo, I currently hold two jobs, one working as a tech apprentice at the Des Moines Public Schools and another as an IT intern at Principal Financial Group.
While I haven’t held an employed role as an educator, education has always held a significant role in my life. Being a refugee, I had noticed the role (a lack of) higher education played in the success of my parents.
I believe all students have a right to a fair education and that artificial intelligence, when applied properly, can be applied in a manner that supports all students equally. I support my peers by providing programs that supplement their education while educating myself
Currently I assist my teacher Michael Tierney at Central Campus in class as a lab aid and out of class the leader of Iowa Tech Education (IATechED). Outside of that, I’m working with Pi515 as a member of their Youth Advisory Board in the creation of an AI Toolkit for both educators and students.
I’m excited to present this year and offer my unique experience as a student who both creates tools for students while also being directly impacted by the tech policies implemented. I hope that my presence affects these policies in a way that benefits both students and educators.
