About me
Hello, my name is Alexander Garcia-Lorenzo. I'm currently a tech apprentice with Des Moines Public Schools, where I work as a lab aide in class with my teacher Michael Tierney at Central Campus. Outside of class, I'm an active member and co-leader of IATechED.
I'm a high school student at East High School and Central Campus and it's here that my passion for cybersecurity and education has really taken off. Through my apprenticeship, I get to work alongside district tech professionals solving real IT issues for teachers and students across the district. And through IATechED, I've competed in events like CyberPatriot, the Iowa State University Cyber Defense Competition, and CornCon, where our team took first place.
What keeps me motivated is being able to share what I know about security with anyone, and helping make sure the risks that come with technology are actually understood and managed for everyone.
I'm excited to bring a student's perspective to ITEC this year, as someone who's still learning and growing in this field while also helping build the tech support systems around me, and who wants to see more students and staff given the knowledge to use in their own lives.
